Auf Wiedersehen

In this month, a ton has changed. Feelings, understanding of people I care about, physical abilities... who knew July could be so eventful??
Goodness!

Just thinking

The greatest invitation from a guy: "Put on your gym clothes and come over, we are going to watch a movie!" Seriously, how is that not the best way to watch a movie? I loved it.
I like to read Conference talks and other articles on the internet when I have the time. Yesterday I was reading this article about preparing for marriage, and chastity (y'know, the most common topics in Young Women's), and I came across this really cool concept. I don't remember what article it was in, but the author basically said that when you say "I love you," it's not supposed to simply be an expression of condition. It's supposed to be a promise. Saying "I love you" should mean, "I care about you a great deal, and am willing to work constantly to see that you are happy and taken care of."
Just thought that was worth sharing, and remembering.

oh man...

These past couple of weeks have been ridiculous! I learned a lot about me. I also learned some scary things about a few people that I know. Also I learned some very good things about someone else. For this week though, I think I want to be done learning about anyone.
Tomorrow, I'm going to DISNEY LAND!!! First time! Woot Woot!!!

mm.

Sometimes, life is... bizarre. And unsettling.
But you know what? Miss Amber Martin is fantastic, and makes me feel better/more settled.
And i'm sure that Miss Hannah Done will be pretty great about it too.

Oh summer...

I had to teach swim lessons this last session, and I have decided, I'm all taught-out. I'm just done teaching. No more please. In one of my classes I did have a really funny kid though! He's 10, but he looks like he's 13, his name is Jesus. The first week he did backstroke and freestyle just fine, but when we started breaststroke he had some issues. And that's when he started to get really funny.
I usually guard (and teach) with my hair in a braid. One day (Thursday maybe?) my bangs kept coming loose so I put another hair-tie in it at the base of my head. I showed Jesus what I wanted him to fix on his breaststroke and he looks up and says, "Why is your hair like that? You look like the girl from Shrek!" "Jesus did you even listen to what I said?" "Wait, what?"
And then this week, on Wednesday, he said one of the funniest things I've ever heard! We're sitting there stretching before I let them all jump in, and it came up how old everyone was (Most of them were 10.) I said I was 18. Jesus, totally shocked by my age, says "You're 18?? I thought you were 40. Or 30."
Also this week, my phone died. Es ist alles kaput. It was a purple Motorola. Not a Razr, those are dumb. Just a purple Motorola flip phone. So I had to order a new one form Verizon. My new phone is $450. I got it for $20. It's a Casio Exilim. I like it so far, I already dropped it by accident, and it didn't even notice. My favorite thing about is= water resistant!! Yay! perfect lifeguard/swimmer phone! I also like the camera. It's cool and fun to flip the screen around. I named my phone Absolem, after the blue caterpillar from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. That's a good movie. And Exilim, Absolem, it doesn't sound that different. The only bad thing about having my new phone, is that I wasn't able to get any my contacts out of my old phone before it died. Eh. I guess I'll still get all the important people.

Yesterday, I bought a hat. It is a white baseball hat that I can wear at work. I wrote "2010!! Last Civilian Summer!!" on the inside of it. With purple sharpie. I like it.
Tonight, I'm going to walk over to Sis. Stoddard's house, and we're going to make funfetti cupcakes and watch Alice in Wonderland!!! (which by the way is an awesome movie!)

lifeguarding

Today, I worked at Carson. Two of those stupid kid groups came, the ones with wristbands to designate how well they swim. It's a good idea, but those dumb group leaders don't actually test their kids before giving them wristbands, so we end up with kids who can't even swim, drowning in the main pool. Cause of them, we had three rescues in the space of one hour.
First rescue: I was standing in the beach area. Whoever is in the beach is supposed to run and be the secondary rescuer whenever the whistle blows. The whistle blew in the main pool and all those gay little kids from that stupid group would not get out!! So I had to stay and get rid of them all. by the time the kids got out, the rescue was over. Some kid with the wrong wristband went active.
Second rescue: I was on the south side of the main pool. 30 minutes after the first rescue. The guards were rotating at the dive tank. When we rotate at dive, none of the kids are allowed to jump. We make them stand about four feet from the ladders for the boards. Our guard Jemaila was getting down to let Sydney go up. Some 12 year old went halfway up the high dive, realized he was being yelled at, climbed down and fell, smacking his head on the deck. By the time Jemaila got to him he stood back up, and he was too short for us to back board him. We called EMS, had to call his grandma. It was a full twenty minutes before we could even let the kids back in the water.
Third rescue: During the second rescue. On the north side of main, one of the guards was yelling at kids to get out. One of those stupid group girls, also wrong wristband, let go of the wall and went active. Delaney had to go in and grab her.
This is why groups are bad!
Parents: just teach your kids to swim! Swimming lessons are not that expensive!!!

army aside

This blog will be much less frequent than my other one. It will also be less related to my upcoming military career. It's going to be more... like a journal I guess. More like my life as a whole, rather than my experiences as a soldier, although some of it will obviously overlap.
